Strictly limited to just 500 copies worldwide, each print will be individually signed and numbered by the artist and comes complete with a certificate of authenticity. The first print in the series features the artwork for Molly Hatchet's 1996 album 'Devil's Canyon', the first of seven which Paul has created for the band. This stunning piece would make a handsome addition to any collection of fine art or rock memorabilia. Paul Gregory's career as an artist took root in his school days but it was to be his discovery of Tolkiens 'The Lord Of The Rings' which really fired his imagination and took his work in a fantasy-orientated direction. Beginning in the late '70s and continuing to this day, Paul has created a substantial and critically-acclaimed body of work based on the characters and locations in Tolkien's magical epic. In 1984, Paul made his first foray into the world of album sleeve artwork, creating the cover for the album 'Crusader' by successful English heavy metal band Saxon. He has since created a further eleven cover concepts for Saxon and produced artwork for other well-known rock and metal artists such as Blind Guardian, Uriah Heep, Dio and of course, Molly Hatchet. Biff says: The moody and menacing image of a knight on an armoured horse gracing the cover of Saxon's collection of re-recorded classic songs deliberately recalls Crusader. The artwork was later adapted for use as a stage backdrop, the banner emblazoned with runes spelling 'Saxon' changed a each concert to the flag of the host nation. 'This was basically my idea and it's one of my favourite covers. With his helmet, the knight is almost futuristic looking . We used that a lot for backdrops; we have different flags for different countries, and obviously it has the Crusader connotation as well'. With that in mind, it has and to this day still does amaze me how a chance meeting or a decision unplanned can send you hurtling of into a direction you never thought of or considered going. I met Saxon's then manager in 1983, by way of the above. It was at this meeting on showing him some of my Tolkien inspired work that he asked would I be interested in doing an Album cover, I found myself saying yes before I'd even considered it, one of my better subliminal moments and one for which I am eternally grateful. This was my first foray into the world of music; of any genre so being dropped in the deep end so to speak I agreed to the commission and scuttled back to my studio. I was given the working title Crusader and a cassette of the song. I decided to do a large canvas, not having any previous experience in this format, I once again went for it head first allowing for both front and back cover, something I don't do these days. On letting Saxon's management know the painting was now completed, it wasn't long before I had a visit to my studio from the entire band. Not knowing what to expect or whether to get in copious amounts of booze and put away the breakables, I waited in trepidation for their arrival. On arriving I went through the various beverages on offer to which they all replied a cuppa tea please. Slightly stunned I took them all to my studio to view the artwork, I can't remember the exact words but I think it must have been approved as it ended up on the album.
